Wuuhuu! We are one week past May and just in a swift of time, less that we know Raya is around the corner and so do the MCOs and whoop!zoop! It’s June, the mid year of 2021.
Traditionally, May birthstone is and has always been the exotic Emerald. I guess many would agree with me when I say that Emerald is the colour of Love. Yup, we can’t go away with the colour green when we talk about the emerald stone.
Green emerald has always been the colour of Islam. It is supposedly our beloved Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) favourite colour. He is said to have worn a green cloak & turban. A hadith recited “When Rasulullah SAW died, he was covered with a Hibra Burd, which is a green square garment.” In the holy Quran itself describes paradise as a place where people will wear green garments of fine silk:
Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. (Al Insan 76:21)
Emeralds are called zamrud in arabic is also known to prevent and cure many physical ailments. The stone plays an influencing role on our central nervous system and helps fend off any nerve problems. It helps to prevent blood problems, such as blood clots, back and muscle pain, promote good eyesight, relieve pangs of pregnancy and childbirth.
Prized for its brilliant and beautiful green color, the emerald is often favored by the rich and famous to wear as statement pieces for big events. Emerald colour can range from light green (though there is some argument whether these very light beryls are truly emeralds) to a deep, rich green. The deeper or more green an emerald is, the more valuable it is. The rarest emerald gemstones will appear to be an intense green-blue colour.
Green emerald is also the symbolic colour of fertility. It’s no coincidence that early Romans gave emeralds as gifts to young wives. Even today, the emerald is a popular push present given to new mothers. For these reasons, the emerald stands for all things that promote vitality – including love, health and prosperity
Here’s my takeaway, should you are looking for a perfect gift as a gesture of love, health and prosperity, get something green like the emerald.
